What is the difference between Custom Made Leather (aka Bespoke) and Made-to-Order Leather Clothing Styles?
When you order a piece of my bespoke leather clothing:
It means you are getting a piece that is created and crafted for you alone. Working with your unique measurements and personal style preferences, I create, from scratch, the perfectly fitting leather pants or jacket or dress – for you alone.
Bespoke means that I works personally with you to create the garment of your dreams. Perfecting the silhouette and details of every custom made piece, making sure the proportion, movement and details on each creation is in fine tune with you. Each piece she creates is intended to become a regular part of your life and being. Now, and far into the future.
Designs can range from the elegantly classic to as flamboyant as you could imagine.
Each bespoke leather commission requires multiple fittings, and multiple cotton muslin fitting garments. Custom Made takes time. It’s also very dependent on the client’s ability to fulfill fitting requirements. So plan ahead!
My background in Fashion, Costume Design and couture craftsmanship enables me to work in leather with a broad range of techniques. The Client informs the design, the design informs the construction, and the leather influences both. All this goes into the garment. My pieces are carefully thought out as a cohesive whole. From the inside out.
With an almost endless array of beautiful leathers, linings and unique techniques & finishings to choose from you are only limited by your imagination and your budget.
My bespoke leather jackets start at $5000. Depending on style and leather choices. The average, (non-exotic/non tailored) custom leather jacket entails between 65-70 hours of labor Pattern-making, fitting, cutting and final construction. Tailored jackets take longer. Specialty leathers like shearlings and Exotics are higher.Individual, one-off patterns and personal fittings are incredibly labor intensive and time consuming.
With this in mind, I offer a range of of Made-to-Order styles for both men and women.
Made-to-Order leather styles are made using an existing pattern thats been graded into a set range of sizes.
This way the pattern fit and the construction techniques have already been fine tuned with the same attention to detail that I devote to our custom work, then sized and developed for production standards. As a tiny company I can only offer a limited range of sizes.
Each of our Made-to-Order leather styles, just like our custom made, is individually hand-cut and constructed from the exact same premium leathers, linings and trims. Right here in our NYC Studio.
And because each piece is individually hand-cut, I am able to offer limited adjustments to the fit. Depending on the style – the adjustments can vary, but basic things like sleeve length, etc. can usually be adjusted on a per order basis. I am also able to offer special leathers. If you see something you like but want it in a different color or leather type- it can usually be done.
In a nutshell, every one of our MTO pieces is created to the same exacting standards that we put into our Fully Bespoke Projects. Just without the very intensive time & fitting requirements used in our custom made.
So, if you are within our standard size ranges, these MTO styles are about as close to Bespoke as you can get, with a price range between 30 & 40% less than ANY of our Custom Made styles.
All while featuring the same leathers, materials and artisan craftsmanship.
This also dramatically shortens delivery time since most of our MTO styles can be fulfilled within 2 to eight weeks once your order is placed.
And if you do want further customization like Special leathers and more personalized fitting adjustments on our MTO styles. These are are available on request and charged accordingly.
